What is a Mexican stand-off?
A Mexican stand-off is a confrontation between two or more opponents in which nobody wins. It is considered to be a more dangerous situation than a stalemate. A classical Mexican stand-off occurs when 3 men stand pointing guns at each other.
The man who shoots first will be shot by the others. Nobody wants to shoot for fear of being shot at in return but nobody wants to give up his weapon for fear of being shot. The term is though to have originated in the late 19th century.
